ChatGPT Ads agency in the US
The US is where ChatGPT ads started and where the platform is furthest along. Self-serve has been open here since May, and it is still the only market with some of the new tests.

Ads showing to users
OpenAI announced ads on 16 January 2026 and began testing them with US Free and Go users.

Status
Can you buy ChatGPT ads in the US?
Yes. The US was first on every step: first to see ads, first to get self-serve Ads Manager, and still the only country in some pilots. Any business registered in the US can apply for its own account.
What happened, and when
- Before 5 May 2026, ChatGPT ads were sold only by OpenAI’s ads team, with a $50,000 minimum. Self-serve removed it. (Digiday)
- On 16 September 2026 OpenAI started testing Sponsored Agents with select US advertisers, Angi among them. (Search Engine Roundtable)
- The Amazon DSP pilot, announced 10 September 2026, is open to select US advertisers only. (Amazon Ads)
Who can hold the account
The account is opened in the name of your business. For the US, that means a legal entity registered in the US. A foreign company can still reach people in the US: OpenAI lets you show ads in markets where you cannot open an account. It just needs an entity in an eligible country to hold it.
Cost
What it costs in the US
Two separate bills. Ad spend goes straight to OpenAI. Our fee is fixed and does not move with your budget.
| Item | Amount | Paid to |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum daily budget, per campaign | $25 | OpenAI |
| 30 days at that floor | $750 | OpenAI |
| Launch Sprint, 30 days | $4,950 | Dialogue Ads |
| Ongoing, a month after | $4,000 | Dialogue Ads |
The daily budget is a target average, not a hard cap. A single day can spend up to twice it, and 7 days never spend more than 7 times it. So a campaign at $25 a day will not cost more than $175 in a week. (Search Engine Roundtable)
OpenAI does not publish an average cost per click for any market, so we do not quote one. The floor is enough to see whether the traffic converts. It is not enough to fine-tune on.
Targeting
Targeting rules in the US
Personalisation is allowed
United States is outside the EEA and Switzerland, so the no-personalisation rule does not apply. OpenAI can use the current conversation, past chats and past interactions with ads to choose an ad. Users can see why an ad was shown and turn personalisation off. (OpenAI Help Centre)
True in every market
- Ads show only to logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education never see them.
- No keyword bidding. You describe the conversation you want to appear next to.
- Nothing on health or politics.
- A headline of 24 characters and a description of 48.
If you opt in, ChatGPT can adapt your headline and description to the conversation, and translate them into the user’s language. (OpenAI)
In this market
US accounts get new features first, and some of them only here for now. We tell you which ones are worth testing on your account and which are still too early to judge.
How we work
How we run it for US businesses
A fixed 30 day sprint. Campaigns live and spending within 14 days of OpenAI approving your account, or the sprint is free.
01
Account
We take you through OpenAI’s application. The account is opened under your legal entity in the US, and it stays yours.
02
Measurement
We install the pixel or the Conversions API, so every result is counted as a sale or a lead, not a click.
03
Build
Three campaigns, written for the conversations your customers actually have in ChatGPT.
04
Report
Daily management for a month, then a week 5 report with your real cost per click and cost per conversion, and a plain call on whether to keep going.
Questions
ChatGPT ads in the US: questions
Can you advertise on ChatGPT in the US?
Yes. The US was first on every step: first to see ads, first to get self-serve Ads Manager, and still the only country in some pilots. Any business registered in the US can apply for its own account. Ads only show to logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans.
What is the minimum budget for ChatGPT ads in the US?
$25 a day per campaign. It is an average over 7 days: one day can spend up to twice that, and the week is capped at 7 times it. Our fee is on top: $4,950 for the launch sprint, then $4,000 a month, with no percentage of your spend.
How are ChatGPT ads targeted in the US?
You cannot buy keywords. You describe the conversations your ad should appear in, and OpenAI does the matching. Outside the EEA and Switzerland, OpenAI can also use past chats and past interactions with ads, unless the user turns personalisation off.
Do I need a company in the US to open the account?
The ad account sits under your own legal entity, and that entity must be registered in an eligible country. To sell in the US from a country that is not on the list, use a group company registered in an open market. No agency can lend you its eligibility.
